Abstract: Changesinsedimentgrainsizearemainlycontrolledbythetransportingmedium,transportingmode,dep
ositionalenvironment,climateandotherfactors.Throughanalyzingcharacteristicofgrainsize,typesofsedimentscan
bedistinguished,andthatcharacteristicofthesedimentaryenvironmentcanbeconcluded,environmentalevolution
canbeinterpreted.Inthispaper,thesamplesincludetypicalstablelacustrinesediments(282lacustrinesediment
samplesfromLopNur,123lacustrinesedimentsamplesfromDaihai)andtypicaleolianloess(263samplesfrom
Lanzhou).Thegrainsizecharacteristicparametersofthesesamplesareobtainedwithmomentmethod.Thisarticle
quantitativeanalyzestheseparametersbymeansofdiscriminatoryanalyticalmethod.Andthenobtaineddiscriminant
functionofstablelacustrinesedimentsandtypicaleoliansediments:F(lake,eoliansediment)=20.363Mz56.371Sd
